Zen Kitchen Makeover Spice up my Kitchen Lauren: Our homeowners Andrew and Susan met on a blind date while working in Saudi Arabia. Fast forward a few years, now they’re living here in the U.S. and raising a family in this cute single home. They redecorated a lot of their house to reflect their travels but when it comes to their kitchen the only thing it reflects is a really small face. Andrew: Hi we’re the Warrington family. Susan: Welcome to our tiny 1940s kitchen. Andrew: This kitchen is tight. It’s cramped, the refrigerator reminds me of my college dorm fridge. Susan: And there just no counter space at all none. Andrew: I have never, ever seen anything like this. Susan: Our faucet sprayer is in our window seal. Andrew: We needed a dishwasher because the kids but then after the installation I went down to the basement to take a look and then I realized the clear pipe runs through the basement and into the laundry room. We have this wall that separates the kitchen from the computer room that really reduces the option. Susan: The kitchen just doesn’t work for us it’s too old. There’s nowhere to sit. It doesn’t work at all. Andrew: Not at all especially when you have 5 people in the family that gets very chaotic. Lauren: This kitchen used to be divided and cramped now it’s a cohesive, calming, functional space it’s perfect. Andrew: Can you believe this kitchen? Susan: I can’t believe it’s ours. I love it. Lauren: We transformed the Warrington broken up kitchen into an open zen like space. The total cost came to $45,150 and here’s the breakdown. New light maple cabinets with a flat front door style, integrated appliances with a black gas range and microwave above. Black quarts countertops with an under mount stainless steel sink and new faucet. A multi texture glass tile backsplash natural stone pebble flooring, a new eating area, a new lighting design and you can’t forget all that later. Andrew: There’s such an improvement on the old layout. I mean before it was so cramped, there’s no space. Susan: It just flows on and on. I love it. Andrew: I know, I mean one minute we have two rooms and now we have one big room. Susan: The floor I’m just so amazed I love the way it came out. It’s beautiful. Andrew: Very unique, I don’t know anybody else has a river rock pebbled floor. Susan: And it feels good on you bare feet too. Andrew: It does, it does feel great. Susan: I love these maple cabinets, I love how they’re understated, there’s no hinges, there’s just a beautiful, beautiful warm color and just simple. Andrew: So much more cabinet space now, the way that we have all the cabinets all the way down. Susan: Right. Andrew: It’s just so much more space. It’s great. Susan: I’m so glad Lauren decided to keep the computer in the kitchen, we really needed it, we use it a lot. Andrew: It looks beautiful against this wall a cabinets match, nice book case, I’m really happy with this whole area. Susan: Do you remember that old iron cast sink we had that was huge? Andrew: Yeah I know, now we have a sink that’s in appropriate size with a spray that’s placed in an appropriate place and no longer in the window seal it’s just great. Susan: Efficient and beautiful. I love it. Andrew: I really like the countertops and the way that the backsplash kind of countertops just kind of compliment each other. Susan: And I love how there’s different textures within the backsplash. Thank you so much Lauren and Jeff for giving us a family of 5 a kitchen we can actually live in now.
