Description
Disney's latest animated film, Tangled, takes on the classic Rapunzel story, but unlike some other classic tales, this heroine doesn't exactly need to be rescued. Mandy Moore voices Rapunzel in the movie, and Chuck's Zachary Levi plays her not-quite-prince-charming love interest, Flynn Ryder. I sat down for a chat with Levi and Moore about their magical roles, their favorite Disney movies, and what's in store for their careers - will there be an album for Levi and a guest spot on Chuck for Moore

Zachary Levi and Mandy Moore Talk Tangled and Disney Love Shannon: So what were you guys at this movie? Zachary Levi: I worked a job. No I mean it’s -- I'm a huge Disney nerd you know I grew up watching all the Disney animated films musicals and what have you. And when I found out that they're auditioning for this I was like whatever you got to do tell them I’ll do it for free I don’t care. Mandy Moore: Yeah the same I mean I guess anyway it’s like what a little girl dream of being a Disney princess and how often the opportunity like this come along. Shannon: And you guys both sing so is that part of the drama? Zachary Levi: Oh sure, yeah I mean it’s not very often that we get the opportunity to audition for something where you get to perform as an actor and perform as a singer so that was a huge draw and especially because I've never been hired as a singer before it was kind of one of those things where really you know maybe I can actually do it maybe and I did. I fooled them it worked out. Mandy Moore: Being a part of a Disney musical Alan Menken writing the music it’s sort of a once in a lifetime opportunity so that’s something you're really grateful to be a part of. Shannon: Everyone says in voice acting you don’t really get to record with you co-stars. Did you guys ever get to record together? Zachary Levi: No. Mandy Moore: We didn’t even meet each other until like half way thru the process. We got to record the duet together but none of the dialog sessions. Zachary Levi: Which presents it’s kind of on set of issues or difficulties as supposed but I think we both come to realize that there were a lot of good things in that too. You get to do whatever you want and you don’t have to worry about somebody looking at you going why are they doing that or whatever because I would totally judge her. Mandy Moore: I'm shy and I know that like if there was somebody else in the room and you have to make all those like weird effort sounds like now Rapunzel is running away from the water oh my gosh take a deep breath the water is coming up I would be super weird no doubt and totally shy if somebody were watching me you know that stuff. Shannon: So did you guys ever have a chance to develop since your love interests? Both: No. Mandy Moore: We get honestly like actually talking about the film and doing press now is really the only time. Zachary Levi: But that’s fine I mean it’s cool she’s a good egg. So we had fun doing all these stuff together. Shannon: Well last season you did a spot on Grace I was going to say would you consider doing a spot on chalk? Zachary Levi: Yeah would you? Mandy Moore: If I were asked perhaps I don’t know. Shannon: What's you guys favorite Disney movie of all time? Mandy Moore: The little mermaid. I know your answer is that too. Zachary Levi: Aladdin and little mermaid. Shannon: Well you put out a single with Katharine McPhee would you consider doing an album? Zachary Levi: I’d love to yeah. I don’t know I just get because it’s not really my forte not the acting I mean I suppose acting is my forte I think video game claims really my forte but I don’t know I just have always kind of never wanted to force myself on anyone for any reason. I don’t know I see too many people go on American Idol and thinking that they can sing and then Simon Cowell just like -- so yes I would love to do an album. Shannon: So these characters are kind of different than kind of archetypes that preceded them? Mandy Moore: You sort of come to expect from a film like this that you have the princess role and the prince role but I think it tangled that sort of flips that formula on a tag. Rapunzel is more of the every girl -- she’s sort of a heroine she doesn’t even know that she is a princess until the end of the movie and obviously Zach’s character is a bandit a thief right? And it’s sort of the heroine instead of the guy and I think that’s really an empowering message.
