Yoga Instructor Fired Over Cell Phone Ban - as part of the news series by GeoBeats. The deep concentration that yoga requires leaves little room for cell phone distractions, leading many instructors to enforce a cell phone ban in their classes. However, that ban cost one yoga teacher, Alice Van Ness her job. She was employed by Plus One Health Management contracting firm and taught yoga classes to Facebook employees in Menlo Park, California. In the middle of a class, a Facebook employee in the front row, broke the cardinal rule by typing on her phone, earning a reproachful look from Ness. The employee left class momentarily to finish her tech business and then later complained to the Fitness company regarding the dirty look she received from Ness, resulting in the instructor's firing two weeks later. According to CBS, the company letter stated, “We are in the business of providing great customer service…unless a client requires us to specifically say no to something, we prefer to say yes to whenever possible.” But Ness counters saying, "We're not talking about the U.S. government here. We're not talking about Russia is about to bomb us. We're talking about Facebook. Something can't wait half an hour?"
