Monika: Hi! I'm Monika from Houston, Texas and my question is, is it safe to have X-rays done during pregnancy? Laurie Zephyrin: Well Moni! That's a great question. A lot of women ask me that question on a day-to-day basis. Most diagnostic procedures via X-ray deliver a little amount of radiations that is not harmful to the fetus. Typically we define what's a harmful dose as greater than 5 rads of exposure, and most X-rays you would have for diagnostic purposes have much less than that exposure. Well, most important thing to consider is that if it's medically indicated then it's really important to consider having that X-ray procedure done. So talk with your doctor about it.
