[Music playing] Anthony: Welcome to the art of the drink video podcast. My name is Anthony Caporale. [Banging Sound] Anthony: Back with us again this week is Rachel. Rachel: Hello. Anthony: How are you honey? Rachel: [Laughing] I am good. Anthony: [Laughing] so this week the big event is the world cup. Rachel: Aha! Anthony: So we are going to be making a drink that is a variety of a traditional English summer drink. [Parade Song] Anthony: Classic English summer drink called the Pimm’s cup. [Banging sound] the problem is you need a specific liquor called Pimm’s No. 1. Rachel: Right. Anthony: Which is really hard to get especially in certain parts of the United States, but Pimm’s No. 1 is a gin based liquor. It has herbs and it has spices and it has citrus added to it. What we are going to do is we are going to use gin and add some other things and make something that tastes pretty close. Rachel: We are going to improvise. Anthony: Improvise, exactly. Rachel: All right. Anthony: And we are going to use that as the basis for our version of the Pimm’s Cup and we are going to call it the World Cup. Rachel: Naturally. Anthony: Why not. Rachel: [Laughing] Anthony: Okay, so first thing, glass. I like a nice big tall 12-ounce glass. What I always do with the glass right after I put it up is I add ice to it; right? It is the very first thing that I do. In this drink, we are not going to do that. Rachel: Right. Anthony: Because I have a bunch of other things that need to go in first. The whole key to this trick is the fruit that goes in it. This trick is actually called English Sangria and for those who know what Sangria is, it is wine that has a bunch of fresh fruit added to it. Rachel: It is good. Anthony: [Voice overlap] it is fantastic. And gin, being the international drink of England when you make a drink based with gin, a lot of fruit in it and they call it the English Sangria. So, we start with a whole bunch of fresh fruit and the key to the fruit is it, it is going to be sliced really-really thin. Rachel: Right. Anthony: Okay and I will show you how. Rachel: And you have to cut those right out of the middle of the fruit. Anthony: Yes, exactly. Rachel: Yes. Anthony: Right on the middle of the fruit. So, you cut it real thin and you want to get one piece of orange is what we are starting with, and we are going to add about four pieces of fresh strawberry, again slice real thin, and I will show you how to do this. Rachel: Yes, Anthony: How to slice all of the fruit. One thinly sliced lemon, lime, and the coolest part about this trick, cucumber. That actually is the signature ingredient. Along with the next, I am going to put in mint. Rachel: Love fresh mint. Anthony: Fresh mint, alright. So, we put two or three fresh mint leaves in there, get that all that down to the bottom. Now, on top of that, I am going to add my – Rachel: Why do you put the fruit in the bottom? Anthony: You will see when I actually make the drink. That is a really good question. But you can tell it right now. If I would have put the ice in first, Rachel: Yes. Anthony: Where are you going to put – Rachel: Where you are going to put the fruit? Anthony: Exactly. So, this way, I could put the fruit in. I get all the ice and still get my fold up glass of ice. I know exactly I am doing. Now, this is a traditional Pimm’s Cup. I would go ahead and put Pimm’s No. 1 in right now. About two, two and a half ounces of Pimm’s No. 1 but because we do not have that, I am going to improvise. Alright, so I will take a good London dry gin. I am going to put an ounce of a good London dry gin alright and then, to simulate the herbs, Rachel: Spices. Spice it up! Anthony: I am going to add an ounce of sweet vermouth which is an herbed wine. And to stimulate the citrus, I am going to add a half ounce of triple sec. Now again, it is going to miss a little bit of the spiciness and the flavor is going to be a little different but it is a real good imitation of Pimm’s No. 1. Now I am going to add sour mix about two ounces of sour mix, and soda wate
