Some common complications that can prevent a women from breastfeeding include kidney disease, cardiac disease and severe anemia, chronic medical conditions that require medications that can be passed through the breast milk, HIV or AIDS that can be transmitted through the breast milk. Drug abusers should obviously not breastfeed their babies, as drugs can be also passed through the breast milk, and some breast surgeries may also effect your ability to breastfeed your infant.
