A Mother's day skydiving adventure ended with a trip to the hospital, but quick action from an instructor reportedly saved the day.
This is NOT how you want your first skydiving experience to go. A Pennsylvanian woman went on a tandem parachuting adventure for Mother’s Day. ABC has what happened next. “A Pennsylvania woman on her first ever skydiving adventure ended with a freak accident that left her and her instructor injured. The tandem jump started without a hitch, but when they were about 30 feet away from landing, a sudden updraft stopped the parachute...” The accident was caught on camera by people on the ground. WPVI has the frightening video of what happened next when the wind... “... then blew the twosome back up another 40 feet. ‘Then, all of a sudden, the updraft stopped and the wind came from the side. It folded the parachute underneath and put the parachute into a spin.’” According to WFMZ, both the instructor and first-time jumper are expected to recover fully. The skydiving company said the instructor had to have back surgery, and the woman suffered cracked ribs, a collapsed lung, and possibly a fractured pelvis. The company’s owner says the accident could have been much worse if the skydiving instructor hadn’t acted quickly to bring them to the ground. Nadeau: “It was just a freak thing.” Nadeau: “The instructor, he did everything he could to try to control it. There was nothing he could do about it.” “Reporter: “And as for his passenger...” Nadeau: ‘She says she would do it again. Believe it or not, yeah.’”
