Woman Battles Growing Disorder - as part of the news series by GeoBeats. Most of us care deeply about our weight. So imagine the horror if your body doesn't stop growing. Well, one woman lives with a disorder which caused her to uncontrollably gain weight and height. 33-year-old, Tanya Angus has officially stopped growing, leaving her 7 feet tall and 400 pounds. The disorder caused her body to produce too much growth hormone, increasing her body and organ size. After numerous operations and radiation, she seemed to get worse, but a drug she has been taking for the past year has helped regulate the growth hormone. At the age of 21, Angus was 5’8” tall and 130 pounds, but shortly after, she began growing rapidly. Although she is happy to have some relief after more than 10 years of suffering, she has a hard time walking and only feels comfortable in a swimming pool. Hers is described as a long-term condition that affects approximately 6 out of every 100,000 adults. The increased growth hormone is usually caused by a noncancerous tumor that resides below the brain, on the pituitary gland.
