Shawn: The first that I had was, if we're going to spend all those time and money trying to become pregnant, we might as well just, and not even possibly get pregnant. We might as well just take all that time and money and energy and just adapt. It was really simple. Larry: It really made the decision easier for us. Shawn: Yeah, it did. Larry: It’s never really much of a thought process. It was the only thing we ever even had to consider was whether our options, biologically, were even things we wanted to consider pursuing. It just seemed to us that, if our bodies won't moving forward with it, adaption was just what we were meant to do. Shawn: We decided to adapt from China. They have a very organize process and we weren't comfortable or we weren't sure how comfortable we would be with an open adaption domestically. Which is what led us to international adaption. And we eventually decided on China. Well, we have been trying for about a year when we started having testing done just to sort of see what's going on. And about 6 months later, we realize that without the use of drugs or invasive procedures we wouldn’t really have biological kids. So we just decided to move on with adaption. Larry: We never really hit that wall some people hit with. Shawn: Where it’s a bit heavy decision. Larry: And we never hit that point where we were told we couldn’t have children. There is a good chance we could if we were willing to. Shawn: Go through years and years of trials and tribulation. Larry: And simply manipulate our bodies in ways that we just didn’t think was worth the effort, when to us it just felt like the universe was telling us that our child is out there somewhere else. Shawn: Of course there's just so many kids out there who don’t have a family. They're in orphanages or they lived with nannies. And there's absolutely no reason why we couldn’t get, find one of them and give them a home. It’s turning out to be more like what I understand people say construction is on your house. It always twice as long and twice as much money as you originally, it’s a very expensive process. Larry: Yes. We were very anxious about the level of scrutiny we might be under. Shawn: It was nothing like that at all. Larry: No it wasn’t. Shawn: She just wanted to make sure that the house have four walls and a roof. And that we were decent people and didn’t care, we didn’t have to have background checks or anything. Larry: But I was very anxious before that first meeting. I feel like a lot of people just put too much emphasis on your having to have a biological child. That’s the only kind of child that matters. Or that’s more important, at least. Than raising a child in your home. It just doesn’t matter where it comes from, to us. But I know that there will always be people with questions and who just don’t get it. And who might just make inappropriate remarks. And it’s going to be a matter of teaching our own child to be strong in her own identity and who she is.
