Folic acid, there’s a lot of research on folic acid in reducing neural tube defects. That would be an issue in a fetus, developing fetus and their nervous system, and so it’s well known in the literature that folic acid, high levels of folic acid is going to be really important, and the most important time to have folic acid is early, early in pregnancy before you even realize you’re pregnant. So that’s why I really recommend to have folic acid in your multivitamin before you’re trying to get pregnant; that’s when it's the most important. The minimum is 800 micro-grams a day which is often what you’re going to find in a multivitamin and basically, the higher the dose, the better the outcomes. So in some women they may choose to take in additional folic acid on top of the multivitamin.
