Host: How early should parents begin reading aloud to their children? Rene Hackney: Parents should start reading aloud to babies as soon as they are born. The idea is that if you build it in as a daily activity, it will remain a daily activity; it also is seen as being especially beneficial for young children because they are getting that well edited language. Many times when we are speaking, we speak in half sentences, we use slang and it does not sound correct. So, the idea is that language has been pored over, it has been well edited and so it is a good example to give young children so they can learn about sentence structure.
