Cindy: My name is Cindy and I am from Oakdale, Minnesota. At what age is it appropriate for girls to wear makeup? Michael Steiner: Cindy, great question and a question that will have a lot of different answers for different families across the globe. Generally, the wearing of makeup is either a societal, cultural, or an individual family decision that's best made among people in the family. There is usually not a medical reason that girls have to wear makeup at all. If there is indeed a desire to wear makeup, wearing it during play where mom and dad are involved in the play is probably a good thing at any age. Additionally, special ceremonies of religious or cultural significant can be a time to wear makeup for young children. In terms of wearing makeup day-in and day-out, again it will be an individual family decision that should be made with the girls in the family, the father, and mother all talking together.
