When Are High Heels Too High? Dr. Lisa K. Cannada: Anything that puts a lot of stress on the front of your feet by squeezing them in is too high. So, that depends on shoe design because you can have shoes that are only two inches but yet your toes are squeezed in the front, that there is a tremendous amount of pressure in the front of your foot. The clunkier shoes that are stylist nowadays, actually women can tolerate at a higher heel if they are balancing themselves on a platform. So, those platforms really aren’t as bad for their foot. They are bad because they can fall and break their ankle because they are so high but they aren’t as bad for their feet as a stiletto heel. So, the shoe design has actually made it easier for women to wear higher heels because it is not like they’re walking and balancing on their entire body weight on a small circle because they are balancing out on a whole foot. So, stilettos are the bad thing.
