Female Speaker: In addition to immediate guidance, is there anything else a parent should ask on the phone? Robin Vick: It's important too during that conversation that the parent ask, what do I do if I have done these things that we have just talked about when my child is not better. At that point, there is more of a longer term plan that's developing and the health care provider is going to want to give some guidance to the family about when to phone back, what things to be looking for, that will determine whether or not the child is responding appropriately and a general time frame should be established as to when that should happen. There should always be some plan about giving follow-up information and a follow-up plan that occurs on that first conversation on the telephone.
