You might be tempted to use the two terms interchangeably but being obese I not the same as being overweight. Obesity means having a very high amount of extra body fat. Overweight means having extra body weight from either muscle, bone, fat, or body water. A common tool for measuring obesity is the body mass index or BMI. A BMI uses eight and height to correlate with body fat that would doesn’t directly measure body fat. Overweight and obese people are at increase risks for many diseases and health conditions. They include Type II Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Heart Disease, Stroke, and some cancers. Researchers have found genetic as well as behaviors can contribute to the likelihood of someone becoming overweight or obese. The good news is obesity can be reversed.
