In Chapter 6 of 16 of his 2010 Capture Your Flag interview with host Erik Michielsen, online media sales executive Geoff Hamm shares what marriage has taught him about teamwork. He highlights compromise and its importance balancing and sharing parenting responsibilities at home where both parents work. Hamm graduated from the University of Illinois and is now SVP of Sales at at Scribd.
Erik: What has marriage taught you about teamwork? Geoff: Compromise. Compromise most definitely. My wife is a saint. I travel every week, I’m gone three or four days a week and I’m home on Fridays and the weekends typically and my wife takes care of our daughter and part of that compromise is that when I come home, it’s my responsibility, that’s how we share that… if we didn’t it would be a nightmare. You have to compromise on everything. Erik: And is that something that’s just developed over time as you’ve built your relationship? Geoff: Yeah, it’s something we’ve definitely learned over time. The longer you know somebody and the longer you’re with them and the older you get, the more responsibility you take on and so you’re forced to learn that and if you don’t then you end up splitting up probably or you have a really crappy marriage.
