Melanie Raposo: Hi! Everybody, I am Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. During the first couple of days after birth, you'll produce breast milk known as Colostrum. After about the third or fourth day you'll produce mature milk. Colostrum is made up of nutrients that provide important health benefits to you baby. It's high in carbohydrates and protein while being low in fat. It also quotes your babies intestinal tract, preventing your baby for becoming sensitive to foods that you may eat. Colostrum is also, made up of antibodies that protect the intestines, throat and lungs from infection. But remember, you only have a few days of colostrums production. So make sure, to latch your baby on right away after birth.
