Hi everybody! I'm Melanie Raposo and welcome to Mommy's Minute. If you have a known or suspected family history of birth defects or you are over the age of 35 and are thinking about getting pregnant, then it's time to make an appointment with a genetic counselor. A genetic counselor can assess your risk of having a baby with a genetic birth defect. During your first visit, the genetic counselor will requires much information as possible on yours and your family's medical history. The information you can provide, the better your genetic counselor can assess the risk. If you are at a very high risk of having a baby with the birth defect some possible solutions your genetic counselor may suggest on vitro fertilization and adoption.
