Volvo Launches First Hybrid Garbage Truck in Sweden Mats Fransen: If the Hybrid is foreseen to be used into all kinds of city traffic, for distribution and for vocational reasons like this refuse truck. They say that this hybrid is a good possibility for the future to meet customer’s demands on low fuel consumption and that would be more and more important now. Those are for of course oil scarcity, but also the climate issue of course. Lars Thulin: We think we could save a total of complete with -- on the line of the under chassis system. We should say about 30% of fuel consumption. For the workers, when they come to the collecting place, they step out from the cabin and the engine will shut down. No noise and no emission around then because this type of way stands to about 60% or 70% a day when they’re collecting and compacting the waste with it. Mats Fransen: It’s suitable for all kinds of city traffics because every break you do, it recuperates the energy and saves it in the batteries. It’s a type of parallel hybrid where the electric motor and the combustion engine can be used in parallel.
