Host: Sometimes, it is called the Napa Valley of Beers, Colorado is home doing a number of world-class micro breweries. Among them is this Steamworks Brewing Company in Durango, Colorado. Kris Oyler: Steamworks started in 1996. We started predominantly as a group hub in that time. We were the fourth of four breweries inside the city limits of Durango, Colorado so even in our twelfth year business with the New Kids on the Block. Host: Steamworks may have started as a small brewery but their beers have one international acclaim. Kris Oyler: Steam Engine Lager has won four gold medals and silver and a bronze at the Great American Beer Festival and it’s also won a silver medal at the World Beer Cup. We try to brew as many beers as we can. We’ve got a good from on its styles but we’ll brew up the 30 to 35 styles of beer throughout the year that offers an opportunity for the breweries to give some creative things and play with the beer styles, and have some fun. The brew culture here in Durango is phenomenal. When people would live here they are looking for something a little different, a little more flavorful, a little bit more full-bodied. I think that kind of reflects the town and reflects the people that live here and it’s reflected in our breweries. Host: Great beer taste even better with good food. The locals recommend the Cajun Boil. Kris Oyler: That’s all boiled in Cajun spices and dump it right on the table on some wax paper. It’s a really fun dish, it’s got shrimp, crab, and sausage, corn, potatoes, and it goes great with a nice Craft beer particularly in amber logger and amber ale. This is our Lizard Head Red. It put up the fire a little bit because it’s a little spicy. Those are all really fun things, people, the beer, the food, some people think I loved a very charmed life. Host: For a taste of the good life, check out the Steamworks Brewing Company and drink on Colorado.
