Many of these factories specialize in the ability to produce products in great bulk. Now, if you are an independent creator like I am, chances are you are not going be working at tens of thousands of items in your first production lot, which isn't the most enticing thing to a lot of factories. If you plan of doing a short run or wanted your toys or characters, it can only help your chances by having additional characters in your product line-up for future production. Even if there are only conceptual sketches at this point, the prospect of future production work will only enhance your ability to attract factories to do business with you. Initially, the factory I eventually worked with, decided not to meet with me. However, after seeing that I had eight characters in my total product line for potential production, they could but change their minds. It's not absolutely necessary, but it can only help if you are able to produce the conceptual line-up of toys instead of just one or two characters.
