The Cast of Barney's Version Veronica: Hi, I'm Veronica with watchmojo.com and today we’re chatting with the producer and some members of the cast of Mordecai Richler’s novel turned film Barney’s Version. Now you can tell us about the film Barney’s Version? Macha Grenon: Barneys’ Version is a movie produced by a Canadian producer Robert Lantos, who was a friend of Mordecai Richler, the author who wrote the beautiful book by inspiration. Robert Lantos: There any reasons I was drawn to this book and first and foremost it made me laugh when I read it and then it made me cry and then it made me do both at the same time. And that rarely happens. Macha Grenon: It's a piece about a man who, with all his flaws and colors and shadows is quite endearing. Veronica: And now in this movie you play Barney’s daughter who stands by him throughout the entire film. Can you tell us more about your character? Anna Hopkins: My name is Kate, she’s Barney’s daughter and you're exactly right she is sort of one of the only characters -- only women in his life that really do stick by him no matter what he does and I think that is really something only a father and daughter can really do. As you can see he loses all his wives at a certain point so. Veronica: And who do you play in this film? Macha Grenon: I play his employee, I play the actress who works in the soap that he’s been producing. He’s actually the only woman he’s loyal to all the time. Scott Speedman: I play Boogie who’s Barney’s best friend and I play sort of this crazy writer who never sort of comes into his own, he’s probably write this book and never finishes. He’s alcoholic and I know he drinks a lot. Veronica: Why do you as a woman think that all these women are falling in-love with Barney who’s an alcoholic, not very nice and he’s overweight? Macha Grenon: He’s a romantic fellow, he really is a romantic. I mean the way he pursues his third wife which is a funny sentence in itself. But the way he purses her I think secretly a lot of women would love to be pursued in that fashion. Anna Hopkins: Anyone who watches the movie see that you end up loving him and you can’t really put your finger on it and I don’t necessarily, I don’t think I can articulate it but it’s just there. You just don’t know why.
