The Best Mobile Devices for Entrepreneurs Summer Knowles: Hello, I'm Summer Knowles with sbtv.com and today we are going to be discussing cell phones and which ones are the best fit for business owners and joining us right now is Dave Takushi with Wireless Toyz. Dave, tell us which ones are best options and why? Dave Takushi: Hi, Summer. Well, we’ve grabbed about four of the most popular ones that are out there but there is no wonder phone that is best for every boss. Summer Knowles: Right. Dave Takushi: That’s why there is so many options just like this one plan is best for everybody. Some of the different options that are out there range from Blackberries which people hear a lot of information about. They started off with these just great phones for email but they’ve added for organizers into them. You can even play music on them, get GPS navigation and really what the boss seems to be looking for these days is a small business owner that you're really busy. How do you be more productive? How do you be more efficient and having the right phone will really allow you to do that. Summer Knowles: Now, talk about Bluetooth a little bit. Do all of these have Bluetooth capability? Dave Takushi: Everyone of this will have Bluetooth capability and it used to be that two years ago you had to find the most expensive phone in order to get Bluetooth. Now, just about every phone that you get even down to free phones these days will come with the Bluetooth in them because there are so many cars that have a built-in as well as it’s just a great thing to have. When you're driving around, you're out on the road. There is a lot loss that are out there in different places of the U.S. where they require you to use a hands-free device and having a Bluetooth is definitely a lot more convenient. It allows you to focus on focus on the road while you're talking on the phone if you are talking on the phone at the same time. Summer Knowles: Let’s take a look at our first option here. Dave Takushi: The first option that I pulled out is a Palm Treo and the Palm originally started off as just kind of handheld organizer. And then they venture in the phone space. There are a couple of different versions of this. They vary in size but you can do everything on here just right now put up with some reminders of different things that I have and they’re just going to snooze on there. So you can use it as a reminder of what are the things that you need to do today or for your appointments to come up. I can check my email on here. This has a full keyboard on about them. It has a touch screen also so if I wanted to go ahead put contacts, I can put contacts information. I can hit the home key. We’ve got a little phone portion right here. So it’s got a variety different capacities and different things that you can do with it. One of the things that is nice is it does have the keyboard so many people do like text messaging on their phones or just type in emails or if you are putting your calendar into your phone you want to be able to type a little bit easier rather than just on a regular keypad some of the basics these days. Summer Knowles: So, on this one, what is going to be most usable for business owners if you have to pick one? Dave Takushi: If I have to pick one thing on this I would just say it’s going to be the ease of use and I think the calendar on here is fantastic calendar and capabilities that has. Summer Knowles: Okay, what do we have next? Dave Takushi: Next, what we have is a Blackberry. There are Blackberries of a variety of different sizes. This happens to be the smallest Blackberry they have right now. This is called the Blackberry Pearl. It gets its name after the fact that this is a little round track ball which they call the pearl that they used in order to navigate around and also in order to slip different items. So you can see on here that I can navigate up-down, left to right so it’s very simple to use from that standpoint. To select an item, I can just go right into here. I can pull up my email and that shows my email items. And they’ll also alert me as soon as I get a new email in which is great. This just helps me when I'm outside of the office. When I'm traveling or visiting some place else that I can just get on my email so that when I do get back to the office, I don’t have huge stack of emails. So when I get at home at night, I don’t have that as many things that I have to do. It has a lot of the same features in some of the other phones where you can do the music on it. You can do GPS navigation. You can do your calendar, contacts and those types of things but this one is really great as far as the email goes and that’s how Blackberry had started at office, email arises. Summer Knowles: So calendar is great on this one. Email is great on this one. What do we have next? Dave Takushi: The next one is going to be a Window Smart phone and there is a couple of different variations of it. This happens to be one that has the full keyboard that slides up. So, it’s a little bit larger than the Blackberry but yet for somebody who has maybe a little bit larger hands, the typing on it can be a little bit better or somebody who does just an extreme amount of typing wants your kind of a larger keyboard can be great from that standpoint. This is one is also—when you play with this it’s also very similar to a computer Windows as a start button on there. It has Internet Explorer on there, has Word, Excel. You can create attachments in here. All of these phones you can sync with your Outlook sync with your computer so that you don’t have to have it in one place or another. That way in case you have lost your phone, you got a back-up. Just grab another phone, sync it with your computer. It makes it very easy so you don’t have lost productivity. Summer Knowles: Right. So what’s most useful about this phone? Dave Takushi: I’ll say the most useful piece is the size of the screen along with the size of the keypad. Summer Knowles: Okay. Dave Takushi: And that’s far one of the biggest selling features of this particular phone. And this is probably for more of the tech savvy boss, tech savvy small business owner that really wants what’s really into the technology and can do maybe a few more things with it. Summer Knowles: So, with that calendar, email and textability, what do we have next? Dave Takushi: This is really a very similar phone to this one except that different form factor. This one does not have a touch screen. You do the navigation with a little scroll wheel over on the side in order to navigate around. Similar to this phone about Window Smart phone so to speak so they have the start button on here. You can see the start down on the bottom just like on your computer then it brings up the different applications so it can be similar to using Microsoft Windows on your desktop computer. This one is a little bit smaller in size, a little bit thinner. It still has a full keypad on there. It doesn’t have the touch screen though but a very similar phone with this one is just a different a little bit form factor depending on whether you like to have a touch screen or what do you want to have something that you maybe used just one side of it or if you’d just want a smaller phone than the other one. Summer Knowles: Alright, so pick one thing on there that you think it can be most useful for business owners. Dave Takushi: You know the most useful side of this is probably a little bit more for the tech savvy business owner, a little bit smaller size though, a little bit thinner in size. Summer Knowles: Of this top four, which ones have been most popular? Which one of this has been most popular? Why? Dave Takushi: Probably the most popular phone these days has been the Blackberry. It has so many features and it’s all in a nice small size. You can do just about anything that you might want to do. They all do things a little bit differently but yet it’s easy to use. People are relying on email so much more these days. It used to be that if you wanted to get a hold of somebody and you wanted a quick response, you call them up on the phone and you leave them a voice mail message. Nowadays, people sent you an email and if they don’t get a response in a couple of hours of that same day they like, “Hey, what’s going on?” They sent you an email. So a lot of small business owners have to rely on their email so much more these days and this is a great device for that. It’s a very small. It fits in your pocket easily, travel with it and just great phone. Summer Knowles: Alright. Well, thank you very much, Dave and for additional tips on these cell phones and if you are interested in having a border a long ago, just log on to our website sbtv.com where is small business is our only business.
