The Benefits of Breast Feeding Hi, welcome to Mommy matters, I’m Shannon with babyessential.com, here to talk to you today about breast feeding benefits and does it hurt. The benefits of breastfeeding are numerous. Many studies have shown that breast feeding helps to protect your baby from bacteria and viruses. Also, as you can probably already gather, breast feeding is always readily available, especially on the go. Another key benefit is that breast milk is also easily digestible, making life super easy. A common question many mothers ask is, “Does breastfeeding hurt?” When you’re first learning to breast feed, there are a lot of important things to note. To aid the learning process, you can take a breast feeding course ahead of time to learn the right way to breastfeed and learn what to look for when trying to get your baby to latch. During the first initial days of breastfeeding, you may experience a lot of sensitivity. If the heightened sensitivity goes beyond the first couple of days, your latch is most likely not right and at which time you should seek the assistance of a lactation consultant. Lactation consultants are usually pretty easy to find and you may have had a visit from one at your hospital or birth center at the time of your delivery. Certainly, latching and breastfeeding should not be uncomfortable past those first initial days.
