The Basic Rules of Bartending You see, bartending is a very interesting profession. A bartender from a hundred years ago could walk behind this bar with me right now and he would know how to work this bar. Why? Because the basic rules of bartending have not changed for at least the last hundred years. The rules are simple, they are easy to learn and I am going to teach them to you so that you can make drinks at home that will amaze your family and your friends at any party or get together you might choose to have. Now I am going to tell you what you need in your basic liquor cabinet. You are going to need rum. You are going to need gin. You are going to need vodka. You are going to need scotch. You are going to need Bourbon. You are going to need tequila and you are going to need an American whiskey. And finally, you are going to need a brandy or a cognac. I prefer cognac because it gives a smoother taste to most of your mixed drinks.
