I'm a married mother of three. My daughters are 6 years old, 4 years old, and 3 months. I'm also an art teacher. We're painting in with some dark. And leave a little bit of that blue. I teach art classes at the community college. I teach Art history. I teach painting, mural painting and drawing. Teaching art classes and being a parent to three young kids can be a struggle. Things are hectic, you have to be extremely organized especially with your time. With the kids, we have busy days, and we have slow days. On the busy days, we’ll do something like go to the beach with a friend or visit a museum. Then the next day or two will be slow day. On a slow day, they're a little tuckered out from yesterday. And they can watch a little TV or they could do some reading or they have their own art projects that they work on. And then I work at the computer and do the things that I like to do, organize classes or write lectures and that kind of thing. In order to juggle house work and work and the kids, I just sort of have a priority system. The kids come first, and then work, and then the house. One thing I do is make a list. I write down anything I need to do for the week so that I can stay organize. Another thing I do is pre-prepare a lot of my meals at night. When the kids are sleeping, maybe I’ll do a few days worth one night, because I don’t have to do it every day. And then I can spend more time with the kids when I get home from work, because I got less to do in the kitchen. I find that wearing the baby allows me to do more than I could. I can do the dishes, I can vacuum, I can sit at the computer, I can chase after the kids. Things that I would have a hard time doing if I was just holding her in my arms. Now that the girls are a little older at 4 and 6, we can all work together. And they're actually a big help with the baby. They can change a wet diaper and the 4 year old likes to, it’s her job to throw all dirty diapers. They help clean up a little bit. We’re working on that. I've tried real carefully to organize everything so that there can be a lot of togetherness. Like I try not to work too many hours outside of the house so that a lot of it is home, so I can be with them. I think it’s really a positive thing to be a working mom, especially if you’ve chosen your career. But I really enjoy being a mother, most of all. So keeping that in focus helps me keep my priorities straight and keeping my priorities straight helps me stay organize.
