The 2010 Matrix Awards Audra Lowe: The matrix Awards are all that girl power. The prestigious awards recognized women who’ve made a big impact in communications. Some of your favorite ladies including Katie Couric and Oprah were all on hand to celebrate this amazing women and Rhiannon shows us how they’re inspiring women everywhere. Rhiannon Ally: The red carpet was buzzing with big stars at The Waldorf Astoria in New York City. Tina Fey, Sheryl Crow and Gayle King were just three of the ladies honored for making a difference. They even let a guy in. Seth Myers was there to present to his old friend, Tina Fey. Known for his jokes on us to know, there was no funny business when discussing Tina. So why does she inspire you so much? Seth Myers: You know incredibly talented, incredibly hardworking. You know when people combine or people always sort of ask how does Tina does it and I think it’s not this on those tricky as an answer, a simple one which is she is just really good at it. Rhiannon Ally: As a mother, executive procedure of a hit TV show and a film star, that’s one question Tina Fey hates. Hi Tina, it’s so nice to meet you. Tina Fey: Nice to meet you, how you doing? Rhiannon Ally: You look beautiful. Tina Fey: Well thanks, so do you. Rhiannon Ally: Okay, I have to ask. How do you juggle it all? Tina Fey: — Rhiannon Ally: What is it about that question that you hate so much? Tina Fey: Well, ah I think there’s a little bit of judgment in it, I'm like, how are you doing it? And I feel like did no one asks men that you know what I mean no one says like your in 10 movies I mean like how do you do it like no one—I think it’s a question reserved for women in a way that makes it make sense. Rhiannon Ally: Good friends Mariska Hargitay and Sheryl Crow walked the red carpet together. The two discussed the importance of strong friendships. How important is it to be surrounded by strong and inspiring women in your life? Mariska Hargitay: It is a gift first of all and a sector reminder to all of us of what we can be. For me it’s just a gift to be reminded about what is possible and if we share our selves and open our selves and be vulnerable, what we can allow to come out of us and then that’s what I think in a way Sheryl really represents as her fearlessness. Rhiannon Ally: Sheryl, do you consider you consider your self fearless? Sheryl Crow: I don’t—I mean I would love to think that you know, the first times of my career I feel like it was really motivated by fear and that’s not a bit place then I got diagnosed with breast cancer and honest to god, you check about a heart opening experience and now the truth is what feels more comforting. Rhiannon Ally: One friendship that stood the test of time is Gayle King and Oprah. Gayle talked about Oprah’s role in her life in success over the last 30 years. Gayle King: Since we were 21 and 22. Rhiannon Ally: Wow. Gayle King: Now we’re 55 and 56. Who is older? She is! Yeah. Rhiannon Ally: Did you ever think that you guys, your friendship would stand a test time like this? Gayle King: No matter where we’ve gone in life, we’ve always stayed connected. So I think any woman or any girl that has a best friend knows what this is. You know, it’s somebody who knows you well, who supports you, who cheers you on during the good and the bad. Rhiannon Ally: Oprah skipped the red carpet but was there to present an award to her best friend. Gayle King: I called her this morning. I’ve been up since 3:22, why do I know? Because I looked at the clock and I said “God Oprah I’m so nervous.” She goes, “What are you nervous about? You’re just talking about your self and I go what should I say about me? Tell me some stories what should I say?” Rhiannon Ally: Gayle said she was nervous with all the other amazing women in the room but among these ladies, one thing was certain. There is no competition, only appreciation. Katie Couric: Well I thank God clearly we’ve accomplished a lot collectively and individually. I think that anytime you can get a group of accomplished women together and sort of celebrate their achievements. It’s a wonderful thing. Rhiannon Ally: Why do all the women being honored today? Have any comment? Natalie Morales: I think what all of these women are is we’re survivors that we’ve managed to prove ourselves in a more masculine world sometimes and I think these are women who are on the four front of cutting edge technology. It changes it’s all happening but were not done. We’re on the road and I hope you will don’t think we’re done because honey we just get started. Audra Lowe: Thanks a lot Rhiannon and for our link all of the women honored at this year’s Matrix Awards, you can head to bettertv.com.
