Liz: My name is Liz and I'm from Edgewater, Colorado. I was wondering, I want to know if I am looking for a doctor for allergies, what kind of doctor should I seek out? What kind of test would they do to diagnose my body? David Lang: Liz, there are two kinds of tests that can be done to confirm the diagnosis of allergy; a blood test or a skin test. The blood test is less sensitive. If it's positive, then somebody with an appropriate history confirms the diagnosis. If it's negative, it either means you don't have allergy or you do but the blood test just wasn't sense enough to detect it. Skin testing is the way to diagnose this condition and it's most reliable. So when you see a Board certified Allergy and Immunology physician, generally you can expect to have skin testing done.
