Dave: My name is Dave from Pasadena California and my question is that my teenage son has been staying up really late during the summer and I don't know how I can break him of that habit before the school year starts? Tim Hoban: Well Dave, you are not alone. Its very, very common for teenagers to become night owls especially on summer vacations. It has been shown that there is a biologic tendency for adolescents to become night owls. Now that becomes tough at the start of the school year when many teenagers have to get up sooner. Best way to prepare for is to begin several weeks before the start of the school year and for most kids its possible to gradually move bed time and waking time earlier over a span of a couple weeks and if you do that consistently seven days a week for most kids will able to get thorough reasonable school year schedule relatively quickly and painlessly.
