Audra Lowe: Now, these days everybody has calendars that are booked more than ever and lists to-do list, the 24/7 demands. People really just want to live their lives on their term so. But a little technology can go a long way when it comes to keeping you organize. And today, we have Omar Wasow, he’s a tech guru who’s here to show us how simply it can be. Welcome to the show Omar, good to see you. Omar Wasow: Thank you, I’m happy to be here. Audra: You’re not going to confuse us, technology people think making it simple, technology could be a little difficult. Omar: Just spending a little bit of time upfront can really simplify your life a lot. So you do have a small investment about the payoff, the dividends will be worth it. Audra: Okay and speaking of it, small investment like a diet you say that we should be going on an email diet, exactly what do you mean by that? Omar: Well, we all love email and we’re also overwhelmed by email. So the trick I recommend is to go on an email diet when you’re doing a couple of things. One is unsubscribe from all of the electronic mailing lists you're on. I went in and did search on my inbox or unsubscribe. I had 74 electronic mailing lists I was getting. You buy something they build up overtime, went through unsubscribe from those diet reduces your in flow. Audra: Because most people just delete them, delete and delete them but you want to just to stop them from coming all together. Omar: Exactly. You also want to—it allows yourself to send short replies or you just get them up quickly and also if you can dictate your inbox to zero, get rid of all the stuff and just like gets-- Audra: Clean it all out. Omar: Yes, exactly. Audra: Okay. And also for people that are watching their weight closely. Some people like to monitor day by day with their eating, what they’re doing. There are some fitness and nutrition applications that you said that we can be using, right? Omar: Yes, there are some great applications some things like the iPhone or Blackberry or this new Google phone called the Android and there is something like Lose it! which allows you to do something very simple like enter your way each day and it will give you a little graph, show you how you’re doing against your goals and those are just very simple things can act like a personal coach. Audra: Right, keep you motivated while you’re going along the way. Now, banking we just had a discussion about this earlier. Some people were saying that they prefer the automatic, the payments to come out of their account automatically for their bills. Other people like to do them when they were ready. You say we should bank in a way that fits our lifestyle though. So does that mean know what you’re getting into first? Omar: Well, it’s here again. It’s about all this innovation going around mobile applications, right? So I have a good friend who just bought home and he’s been using the Bank of America up to check his balance, to transfer money, to stay on top of his personal finances while he’s traveling around the country. And so those kinds of applications really allow you to stay more in control and also do simple things like find the local ATM, find—sort of what—have your checks clear. Those sorts of things allow people to still be in control of their money. Audra: It makes it so much easier. Now, decluttering your space, to declutter your life, I like that one, it makes sense. Omar: Yes. So that another post with the internet really can make a big difference so sites like Craigslists and eBay make it very easy for you to take the junk the junky you but it might be treasure to somebody else and not only can you get it out of your home but you can get paid at the same time. So it takes just a little bit of time, do you take a photo, put a listing out but you’re going to find that suddenly you’re getting rid of you junk and having more money in your pocket. Audra: It feels good to purge every now and then, get it out there. Now, shopping online; some people say that it’s a little more worth it. You just want to go on there and pick it up but you said it saves time with the errands just by shopping online. Omar: Yes. So, there are bunch of their own both local supermarket and national change whether it’s like Peapod or FreshDirect that allow you to go online shop, have that food delivered to you, have a shopping list that’s stored so that the next time you go back you don’t have to build it from scratch and all of that means that you’re not spending time getting to the supermarket, spending time in the supermarket. You can let somebody else do all of that and save your time for the things you really care about. Audra: Omar Wasow, thank you so much. You really know what you’re talking about. Omar: Thank you, Audra. Audra: I think they feel a little bit better. And let us know what you guys think too. You can send us message on Twitter, BTV host Audra would love to know what you think as well. We’ll be right back.
