Female: So why did he go from performing rock to nursery rhymes? Mike: The rock star mentality stuff, it all looks good on the outside, but when you start getting in to it, there's a lot of stuff in there that I don’t really care for. I have a little poodle. Female: Who exactly is the man the children called Music Mike? Mike: Music Mike is a guy that loves music, loves playing guitar, loves sharing music, and what I really like to do with my music is have people participate in. so, with the children, its perfect for me because they interact with me and it’s just a lot of fun. Everyone say Bingo. Children: Bingo. Mike: Alright, everyone clap your hands and sing along. Female: Having such a love of music, it’s no wonder that Music Mike was able to take a simple idea for a summer music program and parlay it into a 17 year jam session. Mike: I went out to the schools and out for the program. Then after the 3 months of summer, they wanted to keep me on. Female: So how would he describe the program? Mike: Its kind of a shake and spin, jumping good time music show for preschoolers. Female: And that it is. Mike: Wake up everybody. Female: The children aren't the only ones who get excited when Music Mike is in the building. Adults in their own right are all smiles while singing his praises. Alecia: Music Mike brings joy. He absolutely is the joy in the joy of children. He truly is. We think that Music Mike is God’s gift to children. Mike: Everybody, hop like a rabbit. Female: And how important is it to give the gift of music to children at such a young age? Mike: I tend to think it’s very important because not only are they getting music, but they're getting lessons. So if you were to take music out of little people’s lives, you’ll be taking a big chunk of their fun away and of course their knowledge.
