Tasting High Scored White Wines Gary: Hello everybody and welcome to wine library TV. I am your host Gary Vaynerchuk. And this is my friend is the thunder show a.k.a the internets most passionate wine program and it is a glorious day. Oh the bubble had -- thought you might want to know what this is. Yes, this is the 2010 American league fantasy sports bubblehead championship, I have won the baseball fantasy league at wine library just came in finally. I feel good about that. I lost the NL league by a point. I'm by for the busiest of all the people and I still continue to put rings. That is my six rings. I'm the best baseball player tonight. Your guts are giving me heart attacks. I'm so sorry for all the Houston Texans and also a big shout out to Arthur, Jets fan celebrating with the Jets on the victory. And the guy goes, when are you going to do Brolow show. He is like a fan, Brolow show. So I met him and the guy sitting in front of me, the guy from summit. Also, you know, I'm a little bit more known than I thought I was. So I was feeling very good about myself. A big shout out to the people that recognize me at the Jets game, I appreciate that. Sorry about the Giants. It’s been tough week to -- two weeks in a row now. Now you got the Red Skins coming up. Am I wrong? Is that right the next game? Matt: Jags or something. Gary: Jags? Matt: Jacksonville. Gary: They’re playing okay and Emma, the big fan from Minnesota. She called in this Thursday night, last Thursday night, a ten year old fan from Minnesota. Emma, thank you so much for watching the show. High five your dad for me and let's get focus. So, yeah things are well. Jets winnings were great. Now I'm 35 years old and I'm a mature man. So we have a big thanksgiving weekend. Oh by the way, the thanksgiving secret pack is going to be tape for Wednesday show. A lot of people are getting together Wednesday night like this is thanksgiving eve month. I don’t know. I'm starting to get those kinds -- so I'm going to put up late Wednesday. Let's put a very -- not very late. Let's put a five PM eastern on Wednesday this week. And watch it when you want. You are not force to taste along hundreds of people at the pack. So I appreciate that. I hope you enjoy. The wines are really good. We’ll be using them at the Vaynerchuk household as well. And today’s show is about two wines that have no real connection other than there are both white and they both just came in. And they both got monster scores, 91 point Tarantes. There’s a 12 bones. We’ll get into that in a minute and a 95 point, 95 point. David Shellnick for 22 points, double deuce, David is a tremendous writer. He reviews wine for Robert Parker’s wine advocate, 95 points is a tremendous score from him. He’s pretty conservative. He doesn’t throw them around so easily. So let's see what he does there. Anyway, I feel like Marc Sanchez just showed this. Looking good, the kids got a little moxy mat. The kids got a little moxy. All right, first wine, 2010, Creos Torrontes from Argentina, 91 points Jay Miller, $12.00, no oak on this wine. Torrontes is a friar we talk a lot about it, the only indigenous varietals to Argentina. It’s a little bit of like a cross between Malabiscium Muscat, very aromatic wine. It tends to be in that 8, 7 to $15 price range. If you’ve not explored expended that pallet into Torrontes yet, please do so. My assistant, some of you have engaged in emails within Toronto. We did Torrontes in the show last week and we named him Bill Torrontes for the day. That was a lot of fun. So big shout to Phil Torrontes, you're doing a great job. I appreciate it. 12 bones, 91 points Jay Miller, very high elevation on this wine. Its -- which the story of Argentina in general very high kind of climates and really the wine is stress for the water, actually the worker bees. It got kind of immigrant mentality which I like, 12 bones, 91 points. Let's sniffy sniff and it’s very fresh. Now Matt smells this. The smell is almost like the Muscat of the Austi. Do you remember how we had the Muscat of the Austi? It’s got this very apple smoothness dessert like, right. Matt: Yes, it does, very sweet smelling. Gary: Right, dry wine. So it’s got a very almost dessert wine characteristic on the nose. This is very apples, guava, very tropical. It just smells delicious and almost dessert-like, but down in the pallet, crisp, dry, really nice acidity actually in this wine, very fruity, a little hollow on the mid-pallet. So that would be one thing to mention, but this almost taste like apple sauce mixed in with a little bit of like guava and mango cut it into it. I don’t know if they put fruit into apple sauce like they do with oatmeal, but A, they should. And B, if they did, it would taste like this wine with a little bit of like prey water poured on top because there's that spritzy acid play that you get from sparkling water. It’s so floral. Also, I’d be demesne and not mentioned this white flower potpourri like classy homes like bathroom smell. Just like really very perfume like on the pallet, nice wine. Good acid. It has a little bit more oomph than most Torrontes that I've come across so maybe an 89 point wine, good wine. I think Jay Miller is a pointer too high if you get those Mendoza lines. That’s very serious if you want to jump over it. I’ll go 89 points, 12 bones, and solid wine, good crisp clean and refreshing at 12 bucks which happens to be Joe Millionaire. Number, not much, makes sure that what I'm pointing to. Yeah. He’s really good at that the chops, Joe Willy. We do well with good-looking dark featured quarterbacks. That’s how I want the Jets to draft going forward. Good wine, solid stuff, 89 points. If you see it, try it. I think you will enjoy it. And that’s that, so good start of the show. In general, I've been getting a lot of conspiracy theories later. People are thinking I'm scoring the wines too high, at a triple 90 show at the other day. Everybody thinks strictly because the Jets are winning all these games. Franswa, 2002 Vouvray, excuse, Vouvray La Bouchet, 95 points, $22, and 100% 0706 as Vouvray are. 100%, biodynamical farmed, 40-80 year old vines go into these wines. So you can see this as much more of a golden color, a little bit more yellow than we saw in the last wine. Let's give it a sniffy sniff. And this wine smells as bad, it smells like super different. Just much more close and more minerality coming through not as fruity, right. A little bit tight. What do you think of those, standard? Matt: Yes. Just -- it didn’t -- Gary: There's a little lemon peel coming from the nose like a little crème fresh. You know kind of like creaminess coming through. It’s opening up a little bit more now, a little more kind of like almond shell coming through. It’s kind of pleasant solid. Let's give it a whirl. So first of all, let me start up by saying, I'm a humongous Vouvray fan. I think that Shannon Blanc is spectacular in general. It’s a very versatile grape. It’s one of my favorite grapes in the world that makes sweet wine, sparkling wines, and sparkling wine. I think Vouvray in general is grossly underestimated. This is one of the great producers of Vouvray in the world enhance one of his 0838 here. One of his top wines is only $22. This wine is complex. It kind of waters my mouth. I love the acidity. It makes me want to eat, so it’s a food friendly wine. I love, love the acidity on this wine. I like this peachy freshness that’s coming through, beautiful guava and kiwi flavors that are singing on the mid-pallet. This is spectacular wine, very flinty, chalky in some ways, just good structure, no, no, great structure. Great structure --. Well made seamless long finish, juicy, creamy, delicate, powerful and good wine. 95 is a little bit crazy, it’s a big ass score. But I'm going to score this wine 93 points. I think is a spectacular. Try this Matt. It’s dry with so much fruit that there's a hint of sweetness. There this beautiful honey component on this wine and its thick. I poured a little on me and I feel like I need to take a shower because it’s great viscosity and great mouth feel. And--what do you think? You like it? Matt: It’s really good. Gary: Really good even. So are you feeling the dryness with a hint of sweetness? Matt: Yeah. Gary: And do you like because I know you like the dessert wines. Is that appealing to you? Matt: Yes, it is. Gary: What else, any thing? Matt: You know I’ll go with my old semi. It’s really balanced. Gary: Yeah, I agree. I mean there this great citrus punch almost like pineapple juice like I think. Its very -- it’s got a tropical aspect. Here's what it is different than this. It’s so full, it just so big in comparison to a Torrontes which isn't trying to be by the way. Different strokes or different folks, you know, like credo fish is one my favorite things. It’s not like a big steak and they can both be enjoyed for separate reasons. Hence, what's going on here, both really nice wines? But this is world class stuff, very flinty. I love this whole concept of like this taste like a rock wrap in like lemon peels. And with like a pineapple juice like a pineapple squeeze on top of it. It’s delightful, delicious. I love the minerality. I love the fruit. I love the tropical coolness and I love the mouth feel. 93 plus SS Chris, great wines, good start of the week. Again, Wednesday, we've go that coming and we also have a bad ass, you know, California hot release of show coming up tomorrow with Louise and 1114 and Luna, so look for that. I think you're going to enjoy tomorrow’s show. I enjoyed today show. Good job white wines. White wines are underrated my friends. They are underrated. You see my score. I think thanksgiving is going to be a tremendous day. We've got what the saint versus the cowboys. Male: I always wonder with the cowboys game was? Gary: Saints Cowboys, Lions Patriots and Jets Bangles. I want one of your predictions. Pick one if anyone happens to pick the exact and exact score properly, I would be rewarding with a very secret holiday gift or at least $100 value. You with a little bit of me, we’re changing the wine world.
