Dozens of students at Santa Monica College, angry over rising costs, tried to push their way into a meeting of the school's trustees. Now, they're angry about something else: Getting pepper-sprayed. (April 4)

[Notes:VO ---SANTA MONICA -- APRIL 3 -- AP VIDEO][[VOICE OVER ]]STUDENTS PEPPER SPRAYED BY POLICE AT SANTA MONICA COLLEGE WANT TO KNOW WHY OFFICERS USED THAT KIND OF FORCE TO DISPERSE THEIR PROTEST-[SOT][SUPER: MARIOLY GOMEZ/STUDENT] "we came very peaceful. Yeah we were loud, but we had no weapons with us. I was bystander. I wasn't in the crowd. I was steps away from it. No warning…they didn't tell us anything. They just started pepper spraying."[[VOICE OVER] MARIOLY GOMEZ SAYS WHILE PROTESTING MAJOR TUITION AND FEE HIKES AT HER COMMUNITY COLLEGE, SHE MET THE BLUNT FORCE OF THE LAW WITH PEPPER SPRAY… " I felt a sensation on my skin, my eyes, I fell to the floor." [[VOICE OVER] SHE WAS HOSPITALIZED AND AMONG DOZENS OF STUDENTS HIT BY THE SPRAY IN AN EFFORT TO DIFFUSE AN ANGRY SCENE OUTSIDE TUESDAY NIGHT'S BOARD MEETING. AMATEUR VIDEO EVEN SHOWS A LITTLE GIRL NEAR THE PROTESTS WHO APPEARED TO BE SUFFERING FROM THE EFFECTS OF SPRAY TOO. [[SOT]][SUPER: CHRISTINE DEAL/STUDENT] "if they were going to use force then they should have given us a warning like if you don't back up we're going to use force." [[VOICE OVER] THE PROTESTORS HAD BEEN DENIED ACCESS TO THE MEETING….WHICH WAS DISCUSSING THE CREATION OF A TWO-TIERED TUTION SYSTEM… IN RESPONSE TO DRASTIC STATE BUDGET CUTS.VARIOUS AMATEUR VIDEO VIEWS OF THE INCIDENT APPEAR TO SHOW THE CROWD SHOVING AGAINST POLICE OFFICERS…WHO WERE BLOCKING THE DOOR. IN A STATEMENT, THE COLLEGE PRESIDENT SAYS THAT "ALTHOUGH A NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS ENGAGED IN UNLAWFUL CONDUCT SANTA MONICA POLICE PERSONNEL EXERCISED RESTRAINT AND MADE NO ARRESTS." THE COLLEGE IS LAUNCHING A FULL INVESTIGATION…THE QUESTION IS DID THE POLICE GO TOO FAR? [[sot][[super: JODY ARMOUR/USC LAW SCHOOL] "police work is hard.
