Audra: A lot of women would do just about anything to reverse the signs of aging but the thought is a lot easier said and done. Anti aging specialist Doctor Oz Garcia is here on our studio today to show us some easy pain-free and affordable ways to reverse the signs of aging, three things that we really like. Thank you so much for joining us today doctor. Dr. Oz Garcia: It’s my pleasure. Audra: Good to have you here. Now, everybody talks about it but we really have to focus on what we eat and exercise when it comes to that right? Specifically what? Dr. Oz Garcia: Well I think food is the most important thing of all, we know that it’s very functional. We talk about functionally in these days rather than being on diet to lose weight. You pick up different foods that actually slow down the aging of your skin, of your internal organs, your heart, improve quality of thinking, your brain and so on. Audra: And there are lots of trends though out there out there right now when it comes to organic ingredients that help the process, right? Dr. Oz Garcia: No question about it. I mean the quality of what you chose makes a big difference and I mean even Wal-Mart’s right now is selling organic bio food, right? They’re whole foods everywhere. There are many different farmers market so you can get very good quality food that actually slows down aging. Audra: Anti-oxidants is a big, big thing. You even have a product as well to a drink. Does that really help? Dr. Oz Garcia: Well, anti-oxidants are essential to how it is that you slow down oxidation as for rusting, the natural rusting of our body. We have a product called Daily Booze. It’s made from for a mixture of berries, its rich in anti-oxidants. It’s one of slowing aging down. Audra: Got you. Now, what are the things that we should avoid because I know that there are plenty of things out there we should not be doing? Dr. Oz Garcia: Well processed foods, anything that’s deep fried, anything that has a lot of sugar, anything that has too much preservative. These are things that accelerates speed up your aging and they speed up the aging of your skin, they do damage to your hair, so what you eat, the choices that you make, avoiding processed food, too much saturated fat, these are stuff that’s going to burn in your skin. Sugar we know speeds of something called Glycation which is how you begin to wrinkle quickly when you eat foods that are processed and too high in sugar. Audra: Okay now, what actually causes people to lose the luster in their skin as if we age? Dr. Oz Garcia: Well there are number of things that occur if you don’t maintain an adequate amount of essential fatty acids that you get from seafood, from olive oil, from nuts. The fat in the US has been to reduce fats and the diets of people eliminated all the good fats too. You have to make sure that you have adequate fatty acids. A rich amount of plant-based food has to be in the diet. Seafood has to be in there, lot of anti-oxidant rich vegetables. These are things that make a huge difference. Audra: Now as an anti-aging specialist I know that you brought a few products here. Are these products that you feel have all those ingredients in there to help with the anti-aging process. Dr. Oz Garcia: Absolutely, when you look across the board it’s something called the cosmeceuticals, that’s where you take something like a fruit, like a side berry which is found in the Amazon, you make it into a cream, a moisturizer and so on. You can actually put it on your skin, it slows in the oxidation, the premature wrinkling of your skin kills it’s a wonderful product like that. Combination maybe of the side berry, if you go across I think there are other companies that make remarkable stop. You can actually get vitamin C in a moisturizer that slows down oxidative damage to your skin too. Definitely makes a very similar product too. They’re fun. Priori concentrates around a vitamin like substance called Idebenone. It’s a formal co-enzyme Q10. It’s used typically to the cell damaged—damage to the heart but it does wonderful things for preserving your skin. So across the board these cosmeceuticals do remarkable things for your body. Audra: So it’s more than just staying out of the sun and getting sleep, we have to do more. Dr. Oz Garcia: Well you can’t be exposed to too much pollutant in the city, smog. If you burn your skin you have to get some sunlight but, if you burn it it’s going to cause a lot of damage too. Not being well rested speeds up the aging of your skin too and that’s really well understood. Now you need to have sleep hygiene, the quality, the choices the things that you picked to eat and you need to be very fit. You need to work out at any age. Audra: In addition to all of those things you just mentioned how important is it to have topical ointments on your skin in terms of slowing down the anti-aging process? When the whole picture comes into play, how important is it to use products like these? Dr. Oz Garcia: Well critical because I think science has moved so far you can then do the damage of premature aging from too much sunlight, from makeup, from not getting a good quality diet.
