Host: Should parents contact collages to advocate for their students? Jerome Cole: I think that regardless of how I respond to this question, parents are going to do that anyway. When I talk to colleges, they say that they get lots and lots of phone calls from parents and they would much rather prefer to hear from the students. So, my word to mom and dad out there is, let your student, encourage your student to pick up the telephone and advocate for him or her self. There may be one or two rare exceptions where it is appropriate for a parent to step in, but in general, I would say, let the students advocate for themselves.
