Jill Schlesinger: You seem very comfortable. You seem all relaxed. Female: I just came from the party for them. Jill Schlesinger: You spend 30 seconds with me? Female: No Jill Schlesinger: Busy, no one wants free financial advice. Wow, you want to know the topic? It's an easy topic. Female: What's the topic? Jill Schlesinger: Money, you like that? I'm Jill Schlesinger. We're at New York's Grand Central terminal. Everyday 700,000 people pass through here, one of them's got to need financial advice. Who wants to go you or you? Oh, look at this, this is so good. I'm Jill Schlesinger. Lindsey: Hi, I'm Lindsey. Jill Schlesinger: Do this -- so -- oh, this is Lindsey, okay. Do you have a retirement plan? Lindsey: I do. Jill Schlesinger: Do you use it? Lindsey: Yeah Jill Schlesinger: You put as much as you can into it? Lindsey: Yeah Jill Schlesinger: You have credit cards? Lindsey: Yeah Jill Schlesinger: Do you use them and you carry a debt? Lindsey: I do actually yeah. Jill Schlesinger: What are you doing to pay it down, come on? Wait a second, you're putting money in your retirement plan but you haven't paid down your credit card debt? Lindsey: Yeah Jill Schlesinger: Alright, ready for your financial advice? Here we go. Breathe -- you can still put a tiny bit in your retirement plan, I think that's a good idea. You got to actually decrease the amount you're putting in retirement and pay down your credit card debt first. Here's why, that credit cart debt what's the interest rate on it? Lindsey: It's high. Jill Schlesinger: High like 16, 17%. Okay, this is the coolest thing. When you pay down a 16 or 17% credit card bill you're making 16 or 17%. Do you know many people who are making 16 or 17% on their investments? Lindsey: I don't. Jill Schlesinger: Well, honey, you're gonna make 16 and 17% by paying down your credit card bill. How's that sound? Lindsey: Sounds good. Jill Schlesinger: Alright, thanks for playing and I appreciate it, bye.
