An exceptional rehabilitation center for kids features farm animals and wildlife. Animals can have all sorts of positive effects on humans. A non-profit organization called Green Chimneys serves as an exceptional learning and therapeutic facility for children with social, behavioral and educational challenges. The rehabilitation center in Brewster focuses on bringing farm animals and wildlife specimens into children’s lives. Home to more than 200 animals, the establishment contains riding rings, trails, stables, a greenhouse and a children’s garden. The students not only get to interact with the creatures but assist in the care of rehabilitated wildlife. Miniature horses roam the grounds of the facility along with llamas, birds of prey including bald eagles and owls and even larger animals like camels.The wildlife center is a focal point for therapeutic day and residential school programs. Green Chimneys is well known for animal-assisted activities and therapy for adolescents. Originally founded in 1947, the initial goal was to create a school where children could learn about nature and interact with wildlife.
