A school is evacuated after a child brings in a grenade for show and tell. Show-and-Tell day is an exciting time for kids. However, an 11-year-old girl in Australia picked the wrong item to showcase. She reportedly brought a hand grenade into her Newcastle school. The grenade resembled a World War II ‘pineapple’. The child’s 5th grade teacher took it to a school official who showed it to Boyd Allen, the principal. He immediately evacuated the school, all 60 teachers and 450 pupils and called police. Officials arrived on scene and removed the grenade in a bomb proof box.According to authorities, the pin and detonators had been removed, however explosives were still inside meaning that it could have become active if it was dropped. The female student is not in any trouble.Boyd states “She understood it to be a dummy hand grenade that had been deactivated. We understand it was from a family friend and many years old.” Earlier this year, another child brought in dangerous goods for show-and-tell. A 5-year-old boy in Connecticut pulled out 50 bags of heroin when it was his turn. The child found the drugs in his stepfather’s jacket. The stepfather was arrested and the boy was placed in his grandmother’s custody.
