ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION) STORY: Sao Paulo Fashion Week breezed through the halfway mark with stylish ease as Latin America's largest fashion event wrapped its third day on Wednesday (October 30). The biannual event is now in its fifteenth year and 36th edition. South African supermodel and Victoria Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel returned to Sao Paulo for the second year in a row, taking the runway for local designer Forum. Forum chose to honor the excitement and magnitude of the Sao Paulo megalopolis with its new Winter 2014 collection. Forum's designers used a myriad of electric sequin, urban landscape prints, and gridded patterns to capture the non-stop liveliness of South America's largest city. Kids also took a turn on the catwalk when Lilica Ripilica presented its latest collection of children's garments atop a chocolate-frosted runway. Rarely has the runway been lit up by such bright smiles and unbridled enthusiasm. Wednesday opened in memorable fashion when Brazilian designer Joao Pimenta - who is known for making grand statements with his lines - reminded everyone with his new collection that winter south of the Equator is nothing like the dreariness that often inspires the genius hailing from fashion Meccas such as New York and Paris. Drawing on inspiration from the Italian migration that once shaped southern Brazil, Pimenta delivered a ready-to-wear collection which exaggerated playfully with the past paradigms of men's formal wear. Pimenta was at his best when he managed to twist the demure of colonial chic with either the glamour of Carnaval or the playfulness of the zoot suit-era. Labels Triton and Cavalera also presented their collections on Wednesday. According to organizers, Sao Paulo Fashion Week is a meeting point for over 30,000 companies which employ over 2 million Brazilians and generate in upwards of $50 billion in export revenues. Another Victoria Secret belle, Brazil's own Gisele Bundchen, will also be taking to the Sao Paulo stage on October 31.
