Transcript
IGN Male Speaker: So how cool is this going to be tonight? Robert Rodriguez: Awesome. Male Speaker: Where you guys actually handing out there already? Robert Rodriguez: Yeah. Michelle Rodriguez: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Male Speaker: Yeah. Really. Michelle Rodriguez: I handed out a couple. Male Speaker: So, I know you have talked about this a million times already, but how did it -- how did the idea of Machete wind up becoming a feature film the way it has to go from the current over an idea to a trailer to this? Robert Rodriguez: It was very fan driven for to get to the actual feature or something that I had in mind, I did it as a trailer for -- because I didn't know if I would ever go around to making a feature. And that ended up to be in the perfect marketing tool to engage audience interest because in this world now sequels and remakes, people now think it's a property, that's been around for a long time because of their trailer and engage themselves didn't get excited about they haven't seen any exploitation action picture before and made me realize that idea would work and give something to feel Danny calling me everyday, say now we have to make the movie bro, so we had to go and make it and so then make the movie off of that it's really something for the fans. Male Speaker: Does it true, at one point it was going to be a DVD extra and then and -- Robert Rodriguez: No, I thought maybe we would go and let me just make it for the fans, we'll make it, because just go straight to the DVD with it and write a script and the script came out good, everybody was saying this shouldn't be a DVD movie you know well it goes straight to DVD still needs to be good, so of course I did, I don't want to write a bad movie. I go but now this is better than the stuff that's come. So I thought okay, so you are selling it short. So we send it to Niro first and he signed on, so it is pretty good and then once the Niro was on, I thought well maybe I can even get Michelle to be in and as Michelle -- she came aboard, everybody started coming to aboard. Everybody loves Danny, everybody has been in movies with Danny, they all like the idea that he was going to be in front and center, something this outrageous, and the timing I just felt right. Male Speaker: Yeah. Michelle can you tell us about the play in the movie? Michelle Rodriguez: Yeah. Male Speaker: If you were in the trailer, right does - Michelle Rodriguez: No, no I play a -- I play Luz who sells taco, she is pretty much the community center for the illegal aliens in her community. And I think that you know what attracted me about her character is you know the heart, the girl has got a heart for these guys, you know she can sense, you know who is the piece of shit and who is not and she protects those people, you know who are hard workers and they just running away from a bad life style. And they're looking for a new frontier, well better place to do that than in America that's what this place was founded on. So, I guess she is kind of like a protector of that and then in some strange way she kind of feels like motherly towards all of these hard workers who get paid like probably you know 10 bucks for a full day's worth of hard labor. So she feeds them, let's them you know gives them food on lay away from time to time and you know heals their wounds when they are hurt, kind of thing. Male Speaker: Does she also like -- Michelle Rodriguez: You know, he is at legacy with that, you know you have a legacy with that and that's why we always wanted to work with Rodriguez because you know he is part of that handful of people in Hollywood who really understand what that epitome of a women who embodies masculine and feminine qualities is all about. I think he understands that balance and knows how to you know play with it.
