Reaffirming UNICEF's Commitment to Child Rights Farida Ayari: On the third day of UNICEF’s executive board meeting in New York, Ann M. Veneman, Executive Director of UNICEF reinforced the organization’s commitment to policy making and advocacy for children’s right. Ann M. Veneman: UNICEF strategic intent is to strengthen capacities of governments and societies and design and implement policies and legislative measures that advanced the rights of children and the achievement of the MDGs. We piloted the idea of bringing special focus sessions to the board to allow the board to have the opportunity to look at some issues more in depth as a learning experience for all of us. And we found that as we’ve gone through a number of these sessions, they’ve been very helpful to the board in helping better understand some of the kinds of innovative work that UNICEF engages in. And so today as what’s indicated, we’re going to look at the importance of engaging in policy discussions to advance the cause of children.
