[INSERT: Wire Copy] A 13-day old baby panda made her first public appearance at a zoo in Wakayama, Japan on Thursday. Twelve-year-old giant panda, Rau Hin, gave birth to the female cub on the 10 August at Wakayama's Adventure World. The newborn cub weighed 167 grams (5.9 ounces) at birth, and both she and the mother were in good health, zoo officials said. Now 376 grams (13.3 ounces), she was seen sleeping contentedly on her mother's tummy. The cub is yet to be named, and the zoo has called on the public to offer suggestions. Pandas are notoriously difficult to breed in captivity. Females are in heat for only a few days a year and male pandas often fail to respond. Adventure World now has nine pandas, the largest number in captivity in Japan.(****END****) ANCHOR VOICE: -------------------------VIDEO PRODUCER: Pete---------------------------VIDEO SOURCE: AP-----------------------VIDEO APPROVAL: ----------------------------VIDEO RESTRICTIONS: None----------------------------------MARKET EMBARGO (S): None
