Ann: My name is Ann I'm from Bradenton, Florida. Why does my doctor recommend a flu shot if you have a history of heart disease? Matthew Sorrentino: Ann, flu shots are usually recommended for patients who have other type of illnesses and would be considered at higher risk, for example if you have heart disease and you catch the flu the flu might put enough stress on your body that they may aggravate your heart disease. So it's a very good idea to have a flu shot and If you have other chronic illness to avoid the side effects and complications of these other illnesses and that's why your doctor is recommending a flu shot, if you already have heart disease.
