The Paraguayan scored twice in the second half to add to Milton Casco's first half goal as the 2013 Final Championship winners came back from a 2-1 deficit at the break to seal their first win at Boca since 2009. A well worked goal in the fifth minute had given the home team the perfect start, Juan Martinez setting up Nicolas Blandi for a simple chance from close range, the lead was short lived however as six minutes later Casco found space on the edge of the Boca penalty area and finished with composure. Boca regained the lead in the 31st minute through central defender Daniel Diaz who volleyed home spectacularly from 20 metres after Newell's failed to clear a corner kick to send Boca into the halftime break 2-1 up. Newell's were level within two minutes of the restart, Aquinos neatly flicking the ball past Boca goalkeeper Agustin Orion to level the scores before settling the match five minutes later with a powerful header from 12 metres.
