Audra Lowe: Right now with a brand new year comes a brand new attitude and a brand new look. Rachel Hayes is here. She’s the Editor in Chief of dailyMakeover.com and Rachel has got some great ways to look gorgeous and strut your stuff to 2010 because everybody wants to strut their stuff in 2010, right? Rachel Hayes: Absolutely. Audra Lowe: It may as well because we didn’t do enough in ’09. Good to have you here Rachel. Rachel Hayes: Thank you for having me. Audra Lowe: Well, first of all, we’re going to start with the glitter. You say the glitter is the big deal right about now, right? Rachel Hayes: Glitter is so much fun. Everybody wears lots of shimmer. We’re used to a little sparkle, but now kind of big, bold chunks of glitter is a great way to just pep up your look for a night out. Audra Lowe: Okay, for the eye shadow. I like the colors that you have there. Rachel Hayes: Yes, these are new from Maybelline. They’re called Eye Studio and they’re so silky and they give a great, great shimmer and gleam to it. Audra Lowe: Okay. Rachel Hayes: Or you could do a glitter eyeliner. These are from Jemma Kidd. They are available at Target. They’re $9.00. This I love, it’s a new nail polish called Rococo Nail Apparel. It was inspired by Versaille. It’s a 24-karat gold leaf. You can wear it alone or on top. It’s crazy. Audra Lowe: Hold on to that one real tight, too. Rachel Hayes: I know. Audra Lowe: Now, with the eyeshadows, you’ve got the cream eye shadows and the powder as well. So you can go both ways with that, right? Rachel Hayes: Yeah, you can go both ways. The trick is just do one feature. Audra Lowe: Okay. Rachel Hayes: Don’t do your eyes, your nails, your brow bones, everything. Just pick one when you’re going for glitter. Audra Lowe: And then when you’re done with that, you’ve got to max out the eyelashes. And I love this— Rachel Hayes: Yes. Audra Lowe: ..this particular one that you brought here, too. Rachel Hayes: Yes. This is Estee Lauder Turbo Lash. It vibrates. It sounds like a gimmick but it totally works because it gives these micropulses to your lashes and it separates your lashes and it’s better than using a lash comb. Audra Lowe: Right, because they’re always telling you go side to side to side to side, so this does the work for you, right? Rachel Hayes: Yes. That’s a great one. Another new mascara is L’Oreal Telescopic Explosion. It’s this round brush head that actually deposits mascara in every different angle so you coat every lash. It’s amazing. Audra Lowe: You know we’re in 2010 when they are talking about explosions with their eye mascara. Rachel Hayes: Exactly. Audra Lowe: Okay, next we’re going to move on over here to the smokey eye. I don’t care how many times we do this. Women love to find out how to do the smokey eyes and what to use. Rachel Hayes: And you know what, it’s the most difficult eye effect for women to do at home. Audra Lowe: Yeah. Rachel Hayes: So I’m in love with the new Cover Girl Shadow Blast sticks. So these are double ended shadow sticks. They are goof proof. There’s one end that’s a nice silk soft shadow and there’s another one that’s a more defined eyeliner. So you just use both ends, it’s really easy. I do it in a taxi, it’s so easy. Audra Lowe: Really? Are you serious? Rachel Hayes: Yes. Audra Lowe: It must be good then, especially here in New York City. Rachel Hayes: Yes. Audra Lowe: The nail polish though, it’s you say beyond black nails. Rachel Hayes: Beyond black, black is as basic now as the sheer nude. So if you want to mix it up a little bit, think of a dark plum, a dark navy, a dark hunter green. My favorite is Lancome Untamed Plum. It’s this really rich color. There’s also a Pretty Hunter Green by Jessica. It’s wonderful. Audra Lowe: And you and I were talking earlier, it looks better on shorter nails usually, right? Rachel Hayes: Yes. Keep it short, don’t go long or you will look like you’re in the next vampire movie. Audra Lowe: Right, exactly. The blush though, a lot of women get scared. You see it in the packaging, it looks too pink, looks too dark, but you say we shouldn’t be afraid of it though. Rachel Hayes: Don’t be scared of bright blush because it’s never as bright on your cheeks as it is in the packaging. Audra Lowe: Right. Rachel Hayes: And it’s often that little pop that you need to look really healthy and glowing, especially in January, February when everybody is feeling a little pasty and lack luster. Audra Lowe: Yeah, a little extra something going on on the cheeks. Rachel Hayes: Yeah, and you can pair with a little bit of bronze if you want to get an all over glow. Audra Lowe: Okay, and then last but not the least, let’s talk about the lip gloss this year. Do you have a few different ones here? Rachel Hayes: Well, these are actually lip gloss sticks so they’re really easy to use. They won’t run in your purse and I actually find they last longer than regular lipstick because they have a solid formula. Audra Lowe: Yes, these aren’t a joke. Rachel Hayes: Yes. Those are wonderful and they have a great color, and then the other one is by Sonia Kashuk that actually has a matte finish. Audra Lowe: Got you, alright. Great products. Thank you so much Rachel. Rachel Hayes: Yeah. Audra Lowe: Good to see you and for other great beauty and style tips, you could go to our website, BetterTV.com and click on the link.
