Mrs. Ban Soon-Taek Visits Children with Special Needs in Moscow Chris Moyles: Students at school number 142 gave a warm welcome to Ban Soon-Taek, wife of the UN secretary general Ban Qui Moon. This school is part of the UNICEF’s supported program to provide inclusive education for all Russian children. It caters for about 25 children with special needs and disabilities and for the first time is getting a regular classroom education. The concept is new in Russia and already it’s paying off. Mrs. Ban Soon-Taek: We’ve made huge progress because when we first came, he couldn’t read or write or even hold a crayon, now he can. Chris Moyles: Mrs. Ban met teachers and students and had the chance to get to know the children as they showed off their new skills. This school is one of the several in Moscow that’s opened its doors to students with special needs. It’s a first step in promoting social tolerance and regular education for all children regardless of their circumstances. This is Chris Moyles reporting for UNICEF television, unite for children.
