Description
Motorola is working to create cool new features for mobile devices, including one that allow mobile phone users to be video bloggers. The company conducted a beta test with MIT students earlier this week using the new specially programmed Krazr phone. The phone allows users to capture videos on the phone and upload them to MMS-compliant blog platforms directly through the air. Very cool. I spoke with Motorola's Chief Technology Officer Padmasree Warrior who is very excited about this new app.

Motorola's Padmasree Warrior on Mobile Vlogging A lot of video what we are doing today is actually a demonstration of our technology that we’re launching here. And it is an emerging technology so we thought it would appropriate to try it at the conference here. It’s basically allowing the video camera capability in your mobile phone to record a shot with video and then put it up on a blog or the air. So it’s instantaneous. You take the video and you upload it into your blog and people can see it. So that’s what the technology is. We are demonstrating mobile video. I think is going to be a big opportunity going forward because if you think about the mobile phone it’s a screen that you always have with you in your pocket. And today the screen is idle. It’s not really got anything on except for a screen saver that you put on. How can we use that screen to be more productive? One application of that would be bringing video capability onto the screen, so if it’s broadcast and its not the people are going to necessarily watch a three-hour movie on the phone but perhaps snacks, video snacks, videos that you record and how you can exchange those. I think those sort of applications will become big in the future.
