Moms Take Charge of New Crossover Designs Kate Brooks: Ten years ago women especially those with families made SUVs top sellers because of the roominess, safety and command view of the road. Now women are again driving sales of a new generation of vehicle. That is right. What truck paced SUV has lacked in comfort and fuel economy a decade ago today’s Crossovers are improving upon. Sue Wilson: I am the vehicle line director and as the vehicle line director I work with all the functions together. That would be engineering design, quality, manufacturing to make sure that we are coming off with a product that meets out the consumer’s needs. Kate Brooks: While SUVs were not originally designed with women in mind that is not the case with Crossovers. Sue Morales: Hi, I am Sue Morales. I am the vehicle chief engineer. Kate Brooks: This time car makers like Chevrolet are bringing in their top female designers and engineers to make sure these family haulers have all the right tools. Sue Wilson: In the 25 years I have been at the company you would have never seen in the past a female as myself in charge of a program like this. And from a very biased perspective I feel like having a mother who is the ideal customer in charge of a program like this. It makes sense. Kate Brooks: And who could argue with that? The traverse has just reach showrooms. Go down and see if you agree, I am Kate Brooks.
