Minimal Age for Oral Contraceptive Pills Leticia: Hi, my name is Leticia and I’m from Austin, Texas. What is the same age to begin using birth control? And will it affect a young woman’s growth or normal development? Susan: Well Leticia they don’t have any age limits for prescribing oral contraceptive pills or birth control and there really is not any adverse impact in using a standard dose birth control pill on further development or fertility in the future. And if we we’re going to consider using other contraceptive agents such as Depo-Provera or a very low dose birth control pill in a very young teen, we might consider its impact on bone mineral density in the future and may monitor bone mineral density if we’re going to use to use those medications over a long period of time in a young teen. Otherwise a standard dose oral contraceptive pill should not have any adverse impact on growth or fertility in the future for a young teen.
