Real Questions Roger: I’m Roger from New York and I’ve been dating a girl at college for a few months. She wants me to go home over break and meet her parents. I think it’s a little too early to get this serious. What should I tell her? Robin Kerner: Roger, it sounds like you are concerned about hurting your girlfriend’s feelings if you tell her you do not want to come home with her. And that’s a good thing. It’s nice that you care about what she is feeling and that you do not want her to feel hurt about your decision. But it also sounds like you’re pretty clear that you are not ready to make this step right now. So I suggest you tell her the truth. Speak honestly, let her know that you do care about her but this is just a little bit too soon for that kind of a move but it also sounds like you might have to have a discussion about where each of you are in the relationship right now. If she thinks it’s more serious than it is, that’s going to cause big problems down the road for you.
